Welcome to Brand New Vegan!
I’m SO glad you found me! I’m Chuck and I’m a Plant Based Recipe Blogger!
I create and share wholesome, family-oriented, comfort food recipes that just happen to be made from plants. I’m a Vegan who follows a Whole Food, Plant Based, No Oil Diet as recommended by doctors such as Dr. John McDougall, Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, and Dr. Neil Barnard.
I created this website to help you transition to this new way of eating, because as somebody who has ‘been there, done that’ – I know it can be HARD.
But with familiar , comfort food recipes you probably grew up with – I know it can be a whole lot easier.
All of my recipes are free, so please enjoy and share with your friends.

A good sauce can make all the difference in the world to an otherwise boring plate of rice, noodles, or veggies. Of course I make sure all my sauces are made from Vegan ingredients, but I also try to make them as fat-free as I can. Because we all know that: The fat...read more
One of the very first recipes I tried from Dr. McDougall's Quick & Easy Cookbook, so many years ago, was this recipe for Black Bean Sloppy Joes. I always loved sloppy joes when I was a kid growing up. And as a young man you could still find me pushing a can of...read more
Doesn't this Creamy Mushroom Stroganoff bring back memories of a much simpler time? Sitting around the table to mom's weekly Beef Strogonoff? Those creamy noodles, chunky bits of beef, and oh man, that sauce! That sour cream sauce was a meal all by itself! This...read more
Happy New Years everyone! I thought I'd finish up the year by posting my Top 10 Recipes of 2014. These are the recipes that keep showing up in my popular post widget, and I will admit, some of these are my favorites as well. I still make the Oriental Brown...read more
Who's mouth isn't watering? Come on….fess up. Who DOESN'T love fat-free French Fries? It's America's favorite vegetable! (And yes, sadly, in some places the "french fry" is considered a vegetable - not the potato) Whether we dip them in ketchup, tartar sauce (hey I...read more
Do you love hot and crispy hash browns like I do? Ok, here's the easiest recipe you'll ever find for near perfect, fat-free, Waffle Iron Hash Browns. Seriously! You gotta try this! There's only one small catch - yeah you're going to need a waffle iron. It turns out...read more
I had a dear friend who would bring Shepherds Pie to work for his lunch every night. Sadly my friend has long passed away, but the memory of him and his big tub of Shepherds Pie remains. 🙁 Of course he made his with ground beef - which us Brand New Vegan's no longer...read more
I lived in the great state of Texas for 5 years, and discovered that CHILI was one of the 4 basic food groups. You know, chili? Meat, beans, onions, peppers, and spices? Yeah, THAT chili. Texas chili is just something you really don't mess with. Noodles are...read more

With the holidays coming up I wanted to be sure and give all of you one of my family's favorite Thanksgiving recipes. Vegan Green Bean Casserole Yep, that classic recipe made famous by Campbell's - only veganized. Back when we used to do the traditional Turkey...read more
Oh my gosh. This. Is. The. Soup! It's chilly outside. Autumn is definitely here with the cooler, rainier weather. And you just want something to warm your bones. And only one thing will do it. A nice hot bowl of soup. No, not that 'stuff' in a can. That's...read more
I love easy recipes - especially where I can just throw everything in a pot and press a button. (Sometimes I'm kinda lazy that way.) This Rice Cooker Brown Rice and Veggies recipe is just that easy. Chop a few veggies, add some flavoring, and toss everything into a...read more
Another win with the non-vegan crowd last night! I love it when that happens. It was my daughter's birthday so I wanted to make something special while keeping it vegan. Her favorite comfort food growing up was lasagna so I dug around a bit until I came up with this...read more
Well….not exactly meatloaf. Maybe vegan veggie loaf? Rice and bean loaf? None of these terms really get your mouth a waterin' do they? How about HIPPIE LOAF? As someone raised in the '70's I can surely relate 🙂 Because really that's what it's called. And I...read more
“I’m from Texas and have been very disappointed with many of the vegan chili’s that I’ve tried. I made this recipe tonight and all I can say is…. This recipe is THE BOMB!! Nothing else need be said!!!”
“Chuck: My wife and I tried this amazing cheese sauce with some whole wheat rotini tonight. Honestly couldn’t resist it…so mac and cheesy without all the cheesy badness. Thanks for the great recipe!! I have shared it on my blog today!”
“This was AWESOME and the hubby claimed this as his favorite vegan meal with meat subs that we’ve tried since we went vegan 4 weeks ago!!! We are brand new vegans, and we will be back for more!”
“This Mac and “Cheese” is beyond delicious! There aren’t enough words to describe the fabulous mouthfeel and amazing taste! It’s cheesy and gooey…it’s a perfect replacement for real cheese. So amazingly delicious!”
“These are fantastic – hands down the best oven baked fries ever. I wouldn’t have believed how crispy they could be without oil until I tried them myself. I’ve had these 7 out of the past 9 days, and they just keep getting better every time (seriously, you’ve created a monster…). Loving your site – thank you!”
“Chuck, Your recipes have changed our lives for the better. Thank you for sharing. Your recipes make it easy for me to learn to cook. Honesty, I cannot thank you enough!”

“Can I just say again how amazing these are?! I cut up a large head of cauliflower and a large package of mushrooms and seasoned it up. I’ve made 3 meals out of the “meat” in place of ground beef, those three meals have made enough for two suppers and a lunch for two people. So cheap, so delicious, so versatile! Chuck you are an angel sent from heaven to show us veggie nirvana. Anyone who hasn’t tried this yet, you gotta do it! Do it now! Stop reading this comment and start cooking. You won’t be disappointed!
“This was my first attempt at making a vegan recipe. All I can say is AMAZE BALLS! I will definitely be making this recipe again and look forward to making more recipes from this site. Thank you Chuck for making this plunge into being a vegan not only tasty but less overwhelming by giving me many ideas of how to keep myself and my husband fed.”
“I made this today, and won a third place trophy in a neighborhood chili cook off, and there were nine other recipes, only two of them were vegan! And this is Texas! Very good!”
“Chuck, I discovered your green chili sour cream a few months ago… It has seriously changed my life!!!! I now sub silken tofu for the cashews to cut down on the fat. Thanks for this recipe!!!”
“Because your recipes and my Man are somehow cosmically linked. He’s liked every single recipe of yours that I’ve made for him. And he’s started to make them himself…which is his way of giving them 2 thumbs up. (This is from a man that happily ate frozen bbq tyson chicken wings and multiple bags of shredded cheese per week just 8 months ago.) Thank you Chuck!”
” I follow a lot of excellent vegan bloggers. I use recipes from all, but, you, Chuck, are my favorite. I made you ‘Best Damn Vegan Chili Ever’ last week. It is fabulous. And, the chicken and dumplings. Oh, my. I will be trying this next!”
” Everyone loves your recipes because they are normal food that everyone eats everyday. Not a fancy recipe you hope you will like. Just good ole home town cooking. ”
